Unit Goals
Students will learn about short stories
Students will study the Cask of Amontillado
Unit Objectives
In class discussion, students will be able to generate and organize elements of a good story into a minimum of 3 categories and label appropriately. Assessment: Students write answers on SmartBoard
Students should answer all 5 questions on their anticipation guide, noting how their ideas changed after reading The Cask of Amontillado. Assessment: Students turn in anticipation guides at end of class.
Students will summarize story in one paragraph and write a critical evaluation/recommendation of the story on their book covers. Assessment: Students create book covers which will be graded by a rubric.
Each student will respond verbally to open-ended question during socratic seminar at least one time, providing insight to whether or not Montresor is a reliable narrator. Assessment: Student participation will be recorded during seminar.
Given a webquest, each student will create a PowerPoint defining 5 vocabulary words they did not know from the story, then teach their lesson to their classmates. Assessment: Students will email Power Point presentations to teacher.
